Erring cops warned
BY MARICAR ARANAS
Negros Oriental police director Senior Supt. Augusto Marquez warned all police officers to faithfully observe and perform their duties.
His order came after PO3 Virgilio Tan of the Sta. Catalina police station accidentally fired his gun while on duty beside the booth area in the Sidlakang Negros Village, during the opening of the recent Buglasan Festival.
Tan is now under investigation by the Internal Affairs Services whose recommendation will become the basis for determining his case.
Tan said what happened was purely accidental, although Marquez said he has to answer the allegation that he was under the influence of liquor and was using an unlicensed firearm.
Marquez said neglect of duty can be dealt with either by demotion, suspension or reprimand.
Reprimand will automatically disqualify erring police officers from receiving their benefits, Marquez said.
